The right to live shall never be obsolete. In fact, it's the most world-wide human right.
The law should contain a minimal amount of morality. That minimal amount includes the right to live, the basic human right. This is all that Christianity reacquires from the law. It' doesn't reacquire an adultery ban, for instance. However, if the debate is on whether the fetus is a human being or not, I suggest reading "the Child" section on this site. You shall find rational explanations on this matter there.
